Snow Day Style: Winter Whites & Soft Neutrals
February 18, 2026
2026 has already been such a strange year for weather- in the best way. Cities that never see snow turned into winter wonderlands this winter. There’s something so magical about seeing familiar places transformed in this way. Even Charleston, palm trees and all, got its own snow day this year!
Snow days seem to slow everything down a bit, and a full day of playing in the snow blends into a cozy night of curling up by a fire with a warm tea or hot chocolate. While it’s finally starting to warm up here in the Lowcountry, the Washington, D.C. area is still working through snow melt and chilly mornings. We’re embracing it and leaning all the way into this extended cozy season. We’ve put together some of our favorites for snow day style inspiration: layered textures, soft tones, and cozy winter neutrals.
Layered Winter Whites
While plain white walls can feel stark and uninviting, there is something so timeless about layering shades of white and cream in different materials and textures. From painted ceiling beams and built-ins to creamy upholstery and throws, the depth of the space comes from the variation of shades and materials rather than color. Thoughtful layering creates depth and warmth that feels inviting and oh so winter-y! If you love this palette, take a look at Pantone’s 2026 Color of the Year!
Cool Tones & Subtle Shimmer
Winter light has a way of reflecting off the snow and icicles and making the whole world feel like it’s glowing. In these spaces, cool tones and subtle metallic shimmer add that little extra sparkle without overpowering the room. Paired with soft neutrals and organic materials, we love how these little peeps of shine remind us of the sunlight glinting off of fresh snow.
Soft Snowy Layers
Snow may be wet and cold to the touch, but visually it feels soft and weightless. We love creating that same effect indoors. These bedrooms provide the perfect example of upholstery, bedding, and throws that make you want to cozy up and never leave! Textures are the key to thoughtfully curated cozy design, perfect for a snow day.
Whether snow is still melting outside your window in the Washington D.C. area, or you’re celebrating warmer days in Charleston, there’s something so special about embracing these winter days. From complementing whites and creams to accessorizing with a little shimmer, these elements create spaces that are both fresh and inviting.
